Hello, and Welcome.
I am so glad you are here.
I have been thinking about how to write this first entry for a while now.
There is something both exciting and quietly terrifying about a beginning, about putting something you have carried for years out into the world and saying: here it is. Here I am.
So I decided not to overthink it. I decided to simply start, the way I always tell my students to approach the sewing machine for the first time. Sit down. Take a breath. Begin.
My name is Marieta, and I have spent more than thirty years in the world of textiles.
Thirty years of fabric under my fingers, of machines humming in workshops, of patterns drafted and redrafted, of shirts built seam by seam, of caps shaped and reshaped until they were exactly right.
It has been a life lived very close to the material world, in the most literal sense. And it has been, without question, a beautiful one.
I do not love trends. I love fabrics.
And I love what fabric can become in the right hands.
Over the years, I have made things I am proud of. Collections that traveled far. Pieces worn by people I will never meet, on continents I have visited only in thought. And through all of it, one feeling kept returning, a quiet but persistent voice saying:
Share this. Teach this. Let others discover what you have discovered.
This website, and this journal, is my answer to that voice.
I want this to be more than a page on the internet.
I want it to be a place you return to, not just to find a course or order a material, but to feel inspired. To be reminded that making something with your own hands is one of the most grounding, satisfying things a person can do.
Here, we will talk about sewing, the joy of it and the discipline of it. We will explore the art of constructing a cap from scratch, the quiet elegance of a well-made men's shirt, the small details of a handcrafted accessory that make it entirely different from anything mass-produced.
We will go slowly when we need to, and we will celebrate every small victory along the way.
If you have found your way here, I suspect you are someone who cares about how things are made.
Perhaps you have always wanted to learn to sew but never quite found the right moment. Perhaps you already sew and want to go further, into shirts, into caps, into the kind of work that requires patience and rewards it generously. Perhaps you are simply curious, and that is more than enough.
Whatever brought you here, I am genuinely glad you came.
This is just the beginning, for the website, for the courses,
and for everything we will learn and create together.
In the weeks and months ahead, I will be sharing more, course updates, behind-the-scenes glimpses of the workshop, thoughts on fabric and technique, and stories from the world of handmade fashion that I have been collecting for thirty years.
For now, I simply want to say: welcome.
Welcome to this space. Welcome to this craft. Welcome to the beautiful, patient, endlessly rewarding universe of sewing, of caps and shirts and accessories made with intention, with skill and with love.
With warmth,
Marieta
